Joining our Fellowship
Membership is
open to anyone 16 years or older who supports our Fellowship's activities. One
becomes a voting member by annually signing the Membership Book, subject to
recognition by the Board of Directors.
Annual dues
cover district and national association membership, and include a subscription
to the
UU World. Beyond those dues, members voluntarily offer financial support
during an annual pledge drive. Like all Unitarian Universalist congregations,
the UUFNCI is completely self-supporting.
Sunday Services
Services are held
at 10:30 am preceded by a 10:00 coffee on Sunday mornings; fifth Sundays are
designated as visitation Sundays, members are encouraged to visit a congregation
of their choice. Our fellowship is lay lead by our members. Our programming
rotates between services, forums and book discussions. We are an informal
group, casual attire is most appropriate.
Religious Education
We nurture and educate via:
 |
Religious education for children is available using a curriculum
that covers UU history, beliefs, world religions, Judeo-Christian heritage,
peace and justice, and the interdependent web of life. A Coming-of-Age
program is available for teens.
|
 |
Adult Education Programming utilizes standard UUA curricula
including “Building Your Own Theology” |
Pastoral Care
Our President,
Mary Ellen Miller,
is available for consultation about pastoral and spiritual concerns. Our Caring
Committee also helps members in times of crisis or need.
Who We Are:
The Unitarian
Universalist Fellowship of North Central Iowa is a member of the Unitarian Universalist Association. Unitarian Universalism is a liberal religion, which
emerged from a Judeo-Christian heritage. Our Members hold a wide variety of
theological views ranging from liberal Christianity to Humanism, to earth-based spirituality. Even with diversity, however, we agree on core values:
the inherent worth and dignity of every person; justice, equity, and
compassion in human relations; the right of conscience and the use of the
democratic process within our congregation and in society at large; and the
goal of peace, liberty, and justice within the world community.
